Maxine Vander Ploeg Dies; Rites Tuesday
Monroe – Mrs. Arthur (Maxine) Vander Ploeg, 61, a lifelong resident of Monroe, died Sunday evening at the Pella Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Monroe.
The Rev. Eldon Pals, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Wayne K. Anderson and the Rev. Donald Brong, both former pastors of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
The casket will not be opened at the church.
Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe is handling arrangements.
Memorial contributions to the Monroe First Baptist Church or the Pella Community Hospital will be accepted.
Survivors are two sons, Kurt of Coralville and Kristopher of Monroe; four daughters, Mrs. Dale (Kristine) Dixon, Mrs. Kenneth (Kathline) Van Veen, Mrs. Darrell (Karlin) Hjortshoj and Mrs. Brian (Kyla) Vander Velden, all of Monroe; and 12 grandchildren.
Also surviving are her father, Ulrie Clevenger of Monroe; a sister, Mrs. James (Carol) Vriezelaar of Waverly and two brothers, Lloyd Clevenger of Monroe and Lyle Clevenger of Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter and a grandchild.
Mrs. Vander Ploeg was a member of the First Baptist church, Monroe Coffeetime Club, Monroe Women’s Club and the Monroe Mother’s Club.
The daughter of Ulrie and Mabel LeGrand Clevenger, she was born Dec. 6, 1914 at Monroe and was a 1932 graduate of Monroe Community High School and the American Institute of Business in Des Moines.
She was married Mar. 20, 1937 at Monroe.
