Roger Byal Dies Sunday; Rites Tuesday
Roger R. Byal, 64, of 214 W. 8th St. N., a resident of Newton for approximately 34 years, died Sunday morning while at work clearing snow for the street department of the City of Newton.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home.
The Rev. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Arlene; a daughter, Mrs. Judy Cupples of Newton; a brother, Denver Byal of Mingo; and three sisters, Margaret Byal of Marshalltown, Mrs. Dan (Madge) Phelan of Zearing and Marjorie Byal of Zearing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Stanley; and an infant brother.
Mr. Byal was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He had served in the Army Infantry in the South Pacific during World War II.
The son of Henry and Martha Rippey Byal, he was born Mar. 21, 1911 at Mingo.
He was married to Arlene Dennis Feb. 8, 1947 in Kansas City, Kan.
