Ward Thompson Dies Monday; Rites Thursday
Ralph Ward Thompson, 71, of Rt. 2, Newton, died Monday at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 o’clock Thursday morning at the Sacred Heart (Catholic) McCann Center.
The Rev. Francis Bass, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Wake service will be held at 7 o’clock Wednesday evening at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home.
Friends may call at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home after 9 o’clock Wednesday morning.
Memorial contributions to the Iowa Lung Association will be accepted. They may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Myrtle; a son, Jack W. of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a daughter, Mrs. Wilfred (Jane) Pille of Aurora, Ill.; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother, the Rev. W. Ray Thompson of Corning.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Thompson was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sugar Grove Grange, Jasper County Farm Bureau and Elks Lodge.
A farmer, Mr. Thompson had been employed by the Maytag Co. for 15 years.
The son of Moses Marion and Alice Jessie Fisher Thompson, he was born Oct. 19, 1905 at Lovilia.
He was married to Myrtle Elizabeth Moffitt in Aug. 1930 at Newton.
