W. P. Jones Of This City Dies
Rites For Well Known Newton Man to be Held Wednesday Afternoon
William P. Jones, resident of Newton for 27 years, died this morning at 6 o’clock at his home on East Fourteenth street North, after a brief illness of influenza and pneumonia. He was 60 years old at the time of his death.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Morgan Funeral home and burial will be in the Newton Union cemetery. The rites will be conducted by the Rev. Paul E. Becker, pastor of the Christian church of this city.
Born In 1868
William P. Jones, son of Will and Helen Jones, was born in Kewanee, Ill., Jan. 27, 1868. He came to Iowa with his parents when he was a small child and they settled in Shenandoah where they resided for a number of years. He came to Newton about 27 years ago and had lived here ever since. For the last 10 he had been employed in the stock room department of the Automatic. Before working there he was employed at the Maytag company.
He was united in marriage to Miss Etta M. Smith at Newton on Nov. 16, 1904. Mrs. Jones was born and reared in Newton.
He is survived by his widow, one brother, Charles Jones of Maywood, Nebr., and one niece of Sterling, Colo., and three nephews, one living at Los Angeles, Calif., and two living at Maywood, Nebr. His parents and one brother and one sister have preceded him in death.
Member Of Lodge
Mr. Jones was a member of the Elks lodge, Moose lodge, the Knights of Pythias, and of the Booster club of the K.P. lodge. He was head of the Moose lodge when it was organized here several years ago. He was also a member of the Christian church. He joined the Christian church when he was a small child.
Mrs. Hannah Smith and daughter Miss Florence of Des Moines, mother and sister of Mrs. Jones, are here with Mrs. Jones.
Mr. Jones sustained injuries about his lungs and stomach five weeks ago in a car accident and since that time he had been unable to be at work only part of the time. He took cold over a week ago and on Nov. 16, he was forced to bed suffering from influenza and later pneumonia developed and his condition grew rapidly worse although Saturday he felt better and his condition was thought to be slightly improved. He had been under the care of a special nurse since a week ago today.

Funeral services for William P. Jones were held this afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Morgan Funeral home and burial was in the Newton Union cemetery. The funeral address was delivered by the Rev. Paul E. Becker, pastor of the Christian church of this city.
Pallbearers were Herman Guetzkow, Sidney McMahon, J.M. Davidson, Edward J. Newquist, W.F. Behring and Dan Manning. Music was furnished by the Christian church choir.
Mr. Jones died at his home Monday morning at 6 o’clock at the age of 60 years. He is survived by his wife, and one brother, Charles Jones of Maywood, Neb.
