Thomas Paul Ramsey, age 70 of Monroe, Iowa, passed away late Thursday, March 31, 2022. A celebration of life will be held at a later date and updated on the Coburn Funeral Home website when scheduled. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

Tom was born January 5, 1952, in Carroll, Iowa, to Ralph and Mildred (Reiff) Ramsey, the youngest of four children. Growing up in a small community, "Doc" enjoyed sports, especially playing football. He graduated from Manilla High School and went on to play quarterback for the football team at Indian Hills Junior College, where his team won a national title. He continued his football career at Morningside College, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. He began his teaching and coaching career in Emmetsburg, Iowa.

Tom married Jayne Petersen in 1973 and two children were born, Paul and Molly. The family moved to Riverton, Iowa, and Tom taught Physical Education and coached at Farragut High School for 30 years. He was honored with the KMA Sports Hall of Fame award for his success in coaching basketball.

Known for his sarcastic one liners as much as his gilligan-style bucket hats, he enjoyed playing golf, tending to his lawn, gardening, and especially spending time with his kids and grandchildren.

Tom gave the gift of life through organ donation.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Jayne; two children, Paul (Amy) Ramsey and Molly (Chris) Halverson; three grandchildren, Mason, Natalie and Ramsey; his mother, Mildred Ramsey and siblings, JoAnn Gresso, Mark (Carole) Ramsey and Teri (George) Miller. Preceding Tom in death was his father.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Monroe Fire and Rescue.
