Danny E. Keuning
November 12, 1951 - March 30, 2022

Danny Eugene Keuning, age 70, lifelong resident of Percy and southern Prairie City, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at his home on his farm in his favorite recliner. Dan was born at home on a farm south of Percy. Dan grew up, lived and farmed in this area his entire life. He started school at the Pleasant Hill County School south of Prairie City and graduated from Prairie City High School in 1970. Following graduation Dan worked at Dowden Manufacturing and Rinehart Construction. Later he began a career in farming, something he loved to do with his dad.

Dan married Denise Gilbert on November 22, 1975 at the Christian Church in Prairie City. They began their marriage living on the farm in the Percy-Pleasant Hill area where Dan and Denise raised their family. While farming Dan also worked part time for Grandia Locker, Kuyper Music, Rietveld Locker, and Wanders Farms Locker.

Dan loved his profession of farming and was an excellent caretaker of the lands that he farmed. An example was that upon retirement, he felt strongly about providing land and opportunities to young farmers who were just venturing into their new career. He also deeply cared about all of the residents in the entire Pleasant Hill area. Dan was widely known to "patrol" the gravel in this area, sometimes traveling his route multiple times per day, checking on neighbors and wildlife. He loved his neighborhood and the beauty of the area. If someone wanted to know where the mushrooms could be found, Dan was the person to follow. He was also an expert on where the fish were biting and willingly provided ample advice on how to catch them. Dan also knew precise locations of where the big bucks and wildlife were hanging out. Dan's love for annual Deer Hunting week were prioritized days on his calendar each year. He looked forward to hunting with his brothers, son, family and friends. He was known for his innocent harassment of the Game Wardens and Federal employees.

And of course, Dan always had the information on the location of the next card game in the area. Dan was famous in the area for his ability in playing Cut Throat Pitch. He had a reputation of staying at the annual Percy Pitch Tournament playing cards until the door was locked for the night.

Dan enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada and to North Dakota where he enjoyed "showing everyone how to catch the big ones" and cooking up some great meals for the other travelers. Trips to the West with his family and trips to Hawaii, Branson and Las Vegas were all enjoyed by Dan and Denise.
In life, Dan and Denise shared everything. Time together with their friends and family was a high priority for him. His loved ones and neighbors knew that if they needed anything, Dan would be there for them or would provide what was needed. Likewise, Dan never knew a stranger. He always made people feel included, valued, and cared for. Dan was very active in the Percy Fair, spending time in the preparation of the grounds and then enjoying visiting with old friends and neighbors on the fun day.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife Denise of 46 years, a son Ryan Keuning and daughter in-law Kelly of Prairie City, and daughter Lisa, and son-in-law Bill Beougher of Monroe. Dan will be greatly missed by his special granddaughter, Ila Keuning, and his grandson, Jack Beougher. His kids and grandkids brought him so much joy. An example was his love to watch Ila's involvement in softball and other activities. He was very proud. Dan is also survived by three brothers, Don and his wife Elaine of Monroe, Max and his wife Patty of Prairie City, and Mark and his wife Jean of Prairie City; along with several special nieces and nephews and their families who loved him very much. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Coleen Keuning.

Dan was a member of the Pleasant Hill Community Club, Pleasant Hill Methodist Church, and the Prairie City Odd Fellows.
