Vessels, Elmer Lewis – 1912-1995

Elmer Lewis Vessels, former Colfax resident, dies recently in California. Elmer was the son of William and Annie Jones Vessels, born April 29, 1912 in Solon, Iowa.
He worked as a mechanic for farmers around Algona, Iowa. They moved to Colfax, Iowa in 1930 where he worked for the Maytag factory making washing machines.
He was united in marriage to Bernice Annis, September 8, 1934. They made their home around Newton and Colfax until 1946 when the family moved to California, where Elmer worked in the logging business, leveled land, and finally worked for Case Tractor company as a mechanic and welder. Elmer worked at Plummer’s Sales and Service in Colfax while living here.
Besides his wife, Bernice, he leaves four sons; Theodore and Roy of Sacramento, Richard and his wife Jolene of Fair Oaks, Tom and his wife Barbara of Crescent City, 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and 6 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ray and Willis. He also leaves 3 brothers; Delbert of Des Moines, Iowa, Merle of Scotts Valley, California, and Jack of Sacramento, and 1 sister, Helen Burns of Oregon House, California. He also leaves his nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
Elmer was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church since 1995. Contributions may be made to Gloria Dei Church.
