Joyce Frances Slycord, 72, of Newton died on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at MercyOne Johnston Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 04, 2022, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorials to the Jasper County Elderly Nutrition Program or the MercyOne Johnston Hospice may be left at the funeral home.

Joyce, the daughter, of Paul and Maurine (Billman) Slycord, was born on July 23, 1949, in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1967. Joyce started her nurse’s aide career at a local Newton nursing home and then joined her twin sister, Janet, at Skiff Medical Center in 1975. Together they were known for their high level of personal care and compassion given to each of their patients. Joyce retired from Skiff after more than 30 years of service. Joyce loved her cat, Cookie, watching Hallmark movies, and spending time with her nieces and nephews and their families.

Joyce is survived by her brother, Paul (Karen) Slycord of Altoona; nieces and nephews, Kim (Rusty) Lawrence of West Des Moines, Jeff (Kim) Slycord of Des Moines, Deb (Chris) Van Sickle of Newton, and Shelley (Jim) Bailey of Indianola; and her many great nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents; special dad, Glenn Jacobs; twin sister, Janet Slycord; sister, Charlene Catlett; and brother, Phillip Slycord.
