E. A. “Brownie” Showalter, 84, of Newton died of cancer, Thursday, July 29, 1999 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 2, 1999 at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton with Rev. J. Ronald Burnet, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton, officiating. Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.
The son of Olie Joseph and Cornelia Bessie Alford Showalter, he was born August 31, 1914, in College View, Nebraska. He married Hazel Arlene Annis, August 16, 1946, in Marysville, Kansas.
A lifelong resident of Jasper County, Mr. Showalter resided in Colfax before moving to Newton in 1962. He was the past owner and operator of Mason’s Café and was employed by Winpower in Newton until the 1970s. Mr. Showalter was a memer of the Eagles Club, Newton Moose Lodge, and the Lake Robbins Ballroom in Woodward.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Kathy Johnston of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Kenneth and Sandy Showalter of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Bruce and Karen Showalter of Newton. A daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Thom George of Newton; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Maxine Nichols of Lincoln, Neb. and Betty Rencroft of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son and a sister.
Memorials in Mr. Showalters name will be accepted.
