Don L. Annis Services Held June 5th
Funeral services for Don L. Annis, 83, of Newton were held Saturday June 5 at the First Christian Church.
The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial were in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Memorials to the First Christian Church or the Americn Cancer society will be accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Celestine; two daughters, Shirley Anderson of Arizona and Janet (Mrs. Vic) Horswell of Kenosha Wis.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers, Frank Annis of Newton, Herb Annis of Colfax and Morris Annis of Reno, Nev.; and five sisters, Pearl Gearhart of Newton, Edith Peters of Corvallis, Ore., Bernice Vessels of Sacramento, Calif., Irma Lee Kintz of Downeyville, Calif., and Joyce Patterson of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Donald Gene, in infancy, and two sisters, Arlene Showalter and Dorothy Deaton.
Mr. Annis, a member of the First Christian Church and United Auto Workers, Local 997, Retirees Union, had been employed at the Automatic Washing Machine Co. at Maytag Hotel for 12 years and at the Maytag Co. for 29 years, retiring Feb. 1, 1972.
The son of Frank J. and Maude Laird Annis, he was born June 6 1909 in Jasper County.
He was married to Celestine Nora Henderson Nov. 23, 1929 in Newton.
