Wassenaar Rites Are Held Sunday
Prairie City (Special) – Funeral services for Harry Wassenaar, 92, Prairie City’s oldest resident, were held Sunday at the Prairie City Methodist church.
Mr. Wassenaar died Thursday evening at his home in Prairie City.
The Rev. John Darlington, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Ralph M. Donaldson, pastor of the Monroe United Presbyterian church, officiated at the services and burial was in Griffith cemetery southeast of Prairie City.
Mr. Wassenaar is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Gene Allen of Monroe, and Elsie Wassenaar of Prairie City; a son, Harry Wassenaar of Prairie City; and two grandchildren, Gordon and Joellen Wassenaar.
Mr. Wassenaar was born in The Netherlands and came to the United States with his parents at the age of three, settling near Pella. He was married to Hattie Johnson March 26, 1901 and she preceded him in death March 7, 1938.
