James Hawkins Of Monroe Dies, Rites Tomorrow
Monroe (Special) – James Hawkins, 78, retired farmer and resident of the Monroe area more than 55 years, died yesterday at a Des Moines nursing home after a lingering illness. He entered the nursing home last November.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at one o’clock at the Crumpacker Funeral Home here with Rev. Brong, Baptist pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Vandalia.
Mr. Hawkins was born March 22, 1874, in Hartford, Ind. He farmed near Monroe from the time of his marriage in 1896 until 1941 when he retired and moved to town here.
Survivors are his wife, Ethel, who makes her home with a daughter at Prairie City; four daughters, Mrs. Lottie Decker of Prairie City, Mrs. Ada King of Boone, Mrs. Minnie Wilson of Monroe, Mrs. Stella Boals of Des Moines; three sons, Troy Hawkins of Bayard, Lee of Melbourne and Clarence of Des Moines.
Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one brother who lives in in Illinois. He was preceded in death by a daughter.
