Services held
Funeral services were held Thursday morning, February 12, 1981, at the Wallace Funeral Home in Newton for Burl E. Hawkins, Sr., 75, of Newton. He died Monday afternoon at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
The Rev. Ron Anderson, pastor of the Church of Christ in Des Moines, conducted services. Burial was in the Vandalia Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Mary; four sons, Dean, Harold and Robert, all of Newton and Michael of Grinnell; five daughters, Mrs. Colleen Redington and Mrs. Kenneth (Darlene) Garwick, both of Des Moines, Mrs. Don (Sharon) Smith of Newton, Mrs. Don (Donna) Dickerson of Solon and Mrs. Roy (Harriet) Hawkins of Port Orchard, Wash.; 23 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother, Jason of Monroe; and three sisters, Mrs. Harry (May) Miller of Colfax and Mrs. Pearl Ver Dught and Mrs. Ruby Ver Heul, both of Monroe.
