Services for Ronald J. DeBruin were held Saturday October 4, 2003, at the First Reformed Church in Prairie City. Burial was in Vandalia Cemetery.
Ronald J. DeBruin, age 70, died Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at Pella Regional Health Center. Memorials may be given to the Ronald J. DeBruin Memorial Fund.
Ronald J. DeBruin was born on June 16, 1933 in Leighton, Iowa, the son of Cornelius J. “Cornie” & Marie (VanderHoek) DeBruin.
Ron graduated from Pella High School in 1951. On July 25, 1953 he was united in marriage to JoAnn Schagen in Pella, they later divorced. Ron owned and operated the Oak View Game Farm near Prairie City. He was a member of the National Game Breeders Association, National Rifle Association and North American Gamebird Association, which he served as president and the Board of Directors. Ron was an avid outdoors man who loved to hunt, fish, and go mushroom hunting. Following his retirement, he enjoyed going to flea markets, antiquing and building dog kennels.
Ron is survived by two sons, Steve DeBruin and his wife Lori of Prairie City and Mark DeBruin and his companion Barb Johnston of Runnells; two daughters, Beth Seehusen and her husband Dale of Pomeroy, Iowa and Linda Thomas and her husband Dana of Urbandale; 10 grandchildren, two sisters, Rose Blomeyer of Peoria, Illinois and Willa Mae Bensink and her husband Elvin of Montezuma and a brother, Orlo DeBruin and his wife Aleatha of Albia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Tim in 1981.
