Died – At her home in Vandalia, Mrs. Mary Deakin, wife of Henry C. Deakin, on Sunday, July 3th, in the 65th year of her age. The deceased was a lovely Christian woman, whose long residence in Jasper county made her well known to a very large circle of friends, among whom she was ever honored and highly respected. To the bereaved husband, on whom her loss falls with greatest force, we extend the most profound sympathy.
The following brief biography we find in the Register:
Miss Mary McMillan was born near Columbus, Franklin county, Ohio. When young she became the subject of regenerating grace, and when about 16 united with the Baptist church, near her home. In 1852, with relatives, she came to Iowa and settled in Vandalia, where she has ever since resided. She united with the Baptist church in Vandalia, and continued in its fellowship until her death. In 1854 she was united in marriage to her surviving husband. They had three children, two sons and one daughter; the latter died in 1874. The sons survive, are well settled, and engaged in life’s activities. While she has not been very well for years, her immediate illness continued only some eight days.
