Patricia May Stokes, 64, passed away Monday, April 25, 2016. Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Staves Memorial United Methodist Church, 2747 East Madison Avenue, Des Moines. Patricia May (Bowers) Stokes, age 64, was born June 11, 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa to George and Gladys (Randolph) Bowers. She passed away Monday, April 25, 2016.
Family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Staves Memorial United Methodist Church, 2747 East Madison Avenue, Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 29th, also at Staves Memorial UMC, with interment at Vandalia Cemetery.
Patricia was an active member of Staves Memorial United Methodist Church where she held several offices over the years. She was also a member of Eastern Star. She worked for 17 ½ years at the Des Moines Public Library as a clerk before retiring in 1986 to be a stay-at-home mother. Over the years, she became “mom” to many people. Patricia’s daughter, Catherine, was her life and she loved her daughter dearly.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Catherine A. Stokes, her brother, Don Bowers and his wife Dee, and her sister-in-law, Janet. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, William S. Stokes, her parents, George and Gladys Bowers, and her brother, Alvie L. Bowers.
