Nora Adel Perryman, daughter of Mr. Curtis and Eliza Perryman was born September 9th, 1876 in Marion County, Iowa and departed from this life May 18th, 1932 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Grover Murrow near Runnells, Iowa. Her entire life was spent in and near Jasper county. She was united in marriage to D. J. Smith, March 3, 1897. Four children were born to this union, May, Ross, Roy, and Clella May, the oldest child was called from this life in childhood, April 26th, 1910. The other children still survive. Since the death of her husband two years ago last December, Mrs. Smith has made her home with her daughter. Here her interest has been so great; it seemed like a second mother. Being of a jolly disposition she always had a friendly greeting for everyone, and was willing anytime to help in time of need.
When a young girl she accepted the Savior’s call, placing membership in the Methodist church at Pleasant Hill and has held to loving faith thru life’s journey. Her health has been failing for several years, and last November she suffered three light strokes of paralysis, and following complications has caused intense suffering and helpless condition the past four months. During this time the children have done all things possible for her comfort and care, but skill, science and loving care was all in vain, as the mother’s life slipped quietly away at 12:30 Wednesday morning, age 55 years, 8 months and nine days. Her greatest love and pride the last few years were the grandchildren, Mervin, Norma and Wanda Smith; Dale and Lylith Murrow and Marion Louise Smith, who will long cherish her memory. Besides the children and grandchildren, Mrs. Smith leaves five sisters and two brothers to mourn her loss. They are Mrs. Pres Cowman, Mrs. Ed Suick and Mr. John Perryman of Percy, Iowa; Mrs. Prudie Powell, Dunreath, Iowa; Mr. Dave Perryman, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Jim Gulling of Runnells, Iowa and Mrs. Fred Moomaw of Prairie City, Iowa. In addition to these close relatives, there are several cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends from each community she has lived to grieve that her life here is over.
Funeral services were held at Vandalia in the presence of a large crowd, conducted by Earl Warren of Ivy. Singing by Runnells mixed quartette.
Card of Thanks – We wish to thank the many friends and neighbors for their sympathy and floral offerings at the death of our mother, Mrs. Nora Smith. – The children.
