Mrs. Joe Connett Dies in Des Moines
Somewhere in the vicinity of Adelphi in the year 1900 it was announced that Mr. and Mrs. Geo and Martha Halterman had a baby girl born to them and they named her Alma. This was the only daughter born to this union while both had children by former marriages.
Miss Alma lived with her parents until she was ten years of age, and when in need of a mother most, Mrs. Halterman died, and she kept the home fires burning for her father, remaining with him until she was married Sept. 17, 1971 to Joe Connett.
To this union were born six children, all living except Wilbur, who died during their stay of six years in the state of Minnesota.
Alma was a devoted mother to her children and ready at all times to divide with those in need, being almost too good hearted for her own welfare.
She had been in poor health for some time but seemingly as well as usual, having removed from Runnells where they have been laboring for most of the past four years for the Skinner farm and dairy until the health of Mr. Connett failed, moving to Des Moines at 2928 Dubuque street on Sunday, but Mrs. Connett died very suddenly the following Wednesday, Feb. 9, 1934, at the age of thirty-three years, three months and twenty days, leaving her husband of her youth, one daughter Violet, now fifteen years old, four sons, Johnnie, 13, Junior, 6, Bruce, 3, and Roy, now but 14 months old.
She was preceded in death by one son and her mother some twenty-three years ago, while her father remains, also two half-sisters on the father’s side, Mrs. John Connett and Mrs. Bert Penniger, while Jessie Reece, Alma Reasoner, Jas., Frank and Roy Davis are half brothers and sisters on the mother’s side.
While Mrs. Alma will be missed in the community where she has lived all her life except the six years mentioned above around near the place of her birth, but more especially in the home by her husband, children and the father, now sixty-six years of age.
Services were at Lilly’s undertaking parlors in the presence of a large and sympathetic circle of friends and relatives. Earl Warren of Ivy talked on the subject of “Mother.” Burial at Vandalia.
