Hargis, Gladys Oleafa Bowers – 1911-1987

Mitchellville – Gladys Bowers Hargis, 76, of Mitchellville, a former Jasper County resident, died Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Altoona Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mitchellville United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Becky Campney, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be at the Vandalia Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.
Survivors are a son, Kenneth of Mitchellville; two daughters, Doris (Mrs. Skip) Crandall of Aberdeen, Wash., and Phyllis (Mrs. Le Roy) Vanderflught of Ankeny; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and two brothers, Lloyd Bowers of Newton and George Bowers of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters and a brother.
Mrs. Hargis was a member of the Mitchellville United Methodist Church.
The daughter of Fred and Nellie Booth Bowers, she was born Feb. 12, 1911 in Prairie City.
She was married to Kyle Hargis Jan. 14, 1934 in Bondurant. The couple farmed in the Ankeny area until moving to a farm on the Jasper-Polk County line near Mitchellville in 1966. Mrs. Hargis moved into Mitchellville following the death of her husband.
