Fred Deere Dies Tuesday at Home; Services Friday
Fred Deere, 79, of 718 S. 4th Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1926, died Tuesday afternoon at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Foursquare Church.
The Rev. Ellis Ryherd, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. B. L. Howse, former pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Wallace Funeral Home after 5 p.m. today.
Memorial contributions to thee Foursquare Church memorial fund will be accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Ellen; two daughters, Mrs. Wilbur (Normilee) Osland of Grinnell and Mrs. Neil (Joyce) Hotchkin of Kellogg; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Leo Deere of Hallock, Minn., and Louie Deere Sr. of Kennedy, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Opal; his daughters, Colleen Hoeksma and Janice Kay; four sisters; and a brother.
Mr. Deere was a member of the Foursquare Church and United Auto Workers, Local 997.
Mr. Deere, a 30-year employee of the Maytag Co., retired in 1965.
The son of Louie and Lena Stevens Deere, he was born Jan. 25, 1900 in Percy and was educated in Prairie City schools.
He was married to Ellen Howse Krieg Dec. 28, 1949 in Newton.
