Mrs. Arie DeReus Died Sunday At Prairie City
Mrs. Arie (Sylvia A.) DeReus, 54, a resident of Colfax since 1961, died Sunday, January 5, 1964 at Van’s Nursing Home at Prairie City. Mrs. DeReus was in failing health for several months with a malignancy and had spent the past five weeks in the nursing home.
The daughter of Lowman and Cora Fleming Miller, she was born February 8, 1909, at Vandalia, Ia.
She was married to Arie DeReus, January 12, 1926 at Ivy.
Mrs. DeReus resided at Prairie City, Melcher and Dallas before moving to Colfax inn 1961, where she resided at 402 West Pleasant Street.
She was a member of the Church of Christ at Vandalia.
Preceding her in death were her mother and a sister.
Mrs. DeReus is survived by her husband; two daughters, Miss Betty Jane DeReus, at home and Mrs. Dale (Doris A.) Ross of Prairie City; two sons, LeRoy of Colfax and Raymond of Reasnor; 13 grandchildren and her father, Lowman Miller of Vandalia.
She is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Viola Wicker and Mrs. Merle Mahaffey, both of Des Moines, Mrs. Anna Perrot, Princeton, Ia., Mrs. Dorothy Trachel of Killduff; five brothers, Lawrence Miller of Hutchinson, Kans., Everett Miller of Otley, Cecil Miller and Kenneth Miller, both of Runnells and Calvin Miller of Colfax.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Walters Funeral Home at Colfax. Rev. Walter Goughnour, minister of the Prairie City Christian church, conducted the services.
Bearers were David Hershey, Dwight Miller, Jerry Miller, Larry Miller, Thomas Miller and Harlan Wicker.
Taking care of the flowers were Mrs. Clarence W. Faidley Jr. and Mrs. Wayne Faidley.
Burial was in the Waveland Cemetery at Prairie City.
