Anderson, Maria Jane Murray – 1851-1940

Vandalia, IA – Mrs. Maria J. Anderson, 88-year-old Vandalia woman who had lived here since she was 4 years old, died in her sleep Sunday night about 11:30 o’clock. She had been bedfast for six weeks and death came from the infirmities of advanced age. Funeral services were held here Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock.
Mrs. Anderson, the former Maria Murray, was born near Pittsburgh, Pa., Oct. 28, 1851, and came to Iowa with the Murray family in 1853. The Murray and Anderson families have lived in the community since 1855. Marcia (sic) Murray and Robert L. Anderson were married in Des Moines April 8, 1875.
The Anderson house, a well-known landmark in the community, was erected during the Civil war and was bought by the Andersons in 1908 from Dr. Gourman.
Mr. Anderson preceded his wife in death. Immediate relatives surviving include three daughters and two sons.
