Mrs. A. Lee Dies Today; Widow of Civil War Veteran Succumbs; Rites Here Monday Afternoon
Mrs. Anna Lee, 82, widow of James N. Lee, a veteran of the Civil War, died here this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wilson Lister, after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 24 at 2:30 p.m. from the Murdoch Funeral home with the Rev. James F. Phillips, minister of the First Baptist Church in charge. Interment will be in the Palo Alto cemetery.
Long Time ResidentIn failing health for the past eight years, Mrs. Lee, who had been a resident of Jasper county for about three quarters of a century, had made her home here with her daughters since leaving her farm home south of Newton.
A native of Sweden, she was born May 2, 1861 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Longren and came to America with her parents at the age of seven years.
July 3, 1879 she was united in marriage to James N. Lee, a veteran of the Civil War, who preceded her in death.
In early life she was united with the Baptist church and attended as long as health permitted.
RelativesSurviving relatives include three daughters, Mrs. Wilson Lister, Mrs. Ellen Stover and Mrs. Ethel Long, all of Newton; twelve grandchildren, James. W. Lister, Frederick Delbert, David, Jack, Ethel, Jim N., Harry and Helen Stover, Lois J and Dale W. Long, and Mrs. Edith Schuman; six great grandchildren, one brother, Enoch Longren of Newton, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Weaver B. Lee, and five brothers.
