Joseph Vladyka Buried Sunday
Joseph Vladyka, father of Mrs. Charles Gregg of this city passed away suddenly Thursday at Newton and was laid to rest in the McKeever cemetery Sunday.
The funeral rites were held from the Morgan funeral home at Newton with Rev. S. A. McCollum, pastor of the United Presbyterian church officiating.
Joseph Vladyka was born in Bohemia in 1855. When a child he came to America with his parents, one brother and one sister, all of whom preceded him in death.
He lived some time in Nebraska, and finally made Newton his home. Mr. Vladyka was a man of exceptional mental ability and was deeply religious. In 1896 his mind failed and he was taken to the hospital at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, where he remained for 28 years. He was then brought back to the Jasper County Home where he has been for the last three years. Mr. Vladyka has been in ill health for the last month but his condition had not been considered critical until a few days ago, when he grew rapidly worse and died on Thursday evening, at the age of 72 years. Dropsy was given as the cause of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Joseph Vladyka of Long Beach, Calif., three sons, Frank Vladyka of Del Pasa Heights, Calif., George Vladyka of Live Oak, Calif. and Morris Vladyka of Marshalltown and two daughters, Mrs. C. J. Hanna of Long Beach, Calif. and Mrs. Charles Gregg of Colfax, and nine grandchildren.
