H. M. Vernocum Died Tuesday in Des Moines
H. M. Vernocum, 74, died Tuesday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ila Border, in Des Moines. Mr. Vernocum had been in failing health for several months, but had been able to enjoy a trip to California this past winter with his daughter, Mrs. Guy Runyan and husband of Ames. His death was caused from heart trouble.
Mr. Vernocum resided in Valeria for over 20 years after his marriage Dec. 4, 1888 and had been a resident of Colfax over 30 years. Since the death of his wife Mary Lee Vernocum, in April of 1935, he has managed his apartment house and property interest in the city.
He was the son of L. E. C. Vernocum and is survived by four daughters, Ila Border and Lottie Leek, both of Des Moines, Creeda Runyan of Ames, Iowa and Dolly Stanley of Upland, Calif.; four grandchildren, Harlan Main of Des Moines, Edwin Main of Pomona, Calif., Arnold Downey of Des Moines; Mrs. Mae Wulf of Morrison, Ill.; four great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. A daughter, Mrs. LeOra Main and two sons, Glen and Hubert also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the Cutter-Hartnett chapel. Interment will be in the McKeever cemetery.
