Mingo Man Succumbs
Taylor Barker, 79, Died At His Home In Mingo Thursday
Mingo (Special to The Daily News) – Taylor Barker, 79, lifelong resident of Mingo and Jasper county died at his home here Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock from a stomach ailment. He had been in poor health for the last two or three years.
Mr. Barker, son of William and Mary Barker, and his wife, lived on a farm near here until 20 years ago when they moved into town.
He was engaged in the hardware business for a short time in Valeria.
Surviving relatives are his wife, and four children, Earl with the Coast Guards at Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Arthur Poorbaugh of Mingo, Edgar of Des Moines and Eldon of Boone.
He was a member of the Mingo Methodist church.
Funeral arrangements are pending word from his son, Earl.

Barker Rites To Be Held At Mingo Church
Mingo (Special to The Daily News) – The funeral services for Taylor Barker, who died at his home here Thursday afternoon, will be held at the Mingo Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock.
The Rev. B. F. Finch and the Rev. Wilkins will be in charge of the services.
The body will be taken from the Bumgardner Funeral home at Colfax this afternoon to the home in Mingo.
Burial will be in the McKeever cemetery.

Colfax (Special to The Daily News) – Caylor (sic) Barker, son of William and Mary Holland Barker, was born Aug. 30, 1864, in Jasper county and died at his home in Mingo at two o’clock Nov. 4, 1943, at the age of 79 years, two months and five days.
His parents were among the earliest pioneers to come to Jasper county.
In 1896 he joined the Methodist church at Valeria, but when moving to Mingo on March 1, 1924, his membership was transferred to the church there. He served as president of the Board of Trustees until his health failed him.
He was the last of his family. Two sisters, Mrs. Alice Boyd and Mrs. Vina Baker, preceded him in death.
On February 4, 1891, he was united in marriage to Clementine Alexander and in 1941 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Earl, who is specialist third class petty officer in the U.S. Coast Guards at St. Paul, Minn., Ena Poorbaugh of Mingo, Edgar of Des Moines and Eldon of Boone; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Mingo on Nov. 7, 1943, with the Rev. B. H. Finch and the Rev. I. G. Wilkins in charge.
Eldon Geisler, Otha Hulse, the Rev. I. G. Wilkin and T. A. Christiansen sang the songs, “Old Rugged Cross,” “Wonderful Peace,” and “In the Garden,” accompanied by Mrs. L. L. Pickett.
Those in charge of flowers were Mrs. Harry Otis and Mrs. Lloyd Ellroyd.
Hilster Baker, Olvie Fuller, Harry Otis, Edward Gannon, Garrett Akins and Luther Pemberton were the pallbearers.
Interment was in the McKeever cemetery.
