Services Held For Timothy Gannon Jan. 8th
A young Colfax man, recently promoted to staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, died of a gunshot wound at his home north of Colfax, sometime Friday afternoon, Jan. 4th.
The body of Timothy Ryan Gannon, 22, was found by his sister about 6:15 p.m. according to investigating officer Deputy Alan Wheeler.
Gannon died of a gunshot wound Wheeler said. A revolver was found near the body. The death was ruled an accident.
Gannon, who had been in the Air Force for 3 ½ years, was stationed at McConnell AFB, Wichita, Kan., and had been home on leave for the holidays.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax.
The Rev. Omer Woltering, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Burial was in the McKeever Cemetery, north of Colfax.
Military rites were conducted by an honor guard from Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Neb.
Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gannon of Colfax; two brothers, Dennis James and Brian Joseph, both of Colfax; two sisters, Nina Marie Gannon and Patricia Ann Gannon, both of Colfax; and his grandmother, Mrs. Edward A. Gannon of Mitchellville.
S-Sgt. Gannon was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Valeria.
The son of Paul William and Margaret Louise Slatkoski Gannon, he was born Mar. 22, 1951 in Des Moines and was a 1969 graduate of Mingo Community High School.
