Miss Tena Overdyke Called
Miss Tena Overdyke of Poweshiek Twp. Died Saturday night, Apr. 27 at the Colfax Sanitarium, following a short illness. Miss Overdyke had not been in the best of health for some time but her condition did not become acute until a short time before her death. Everything possible was done for her relief, but to no avail.
Tena, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Overdyke, was born in Goutum, Friesland, Netherlands, August 10, 1889 and died in Colfax, Iowa, April 27, 1929, aged 39 years 8 months and 17 days. The family came from The Netherlands to Port Arthur, Texas in 18998 and to Jasper County, Iowa, in 1901 and to the present farm home in 1910.
The father died in 1915 and the mother in 1919. An older brother died before they left Netherlands and a sister died in infancy. Two brothers, Peter and Andrew, are the surviving members of the family.
Tena united with the Christian church in Ira, in 1907 later transferring to Colfax, and has always lived a most beautiful Christian life. There has always been an unusually close tie of companionship between the sister and the brothers. After the death of her parents, the young people have carried on, continuing one of the sterling homes of the community.
The neighbors and friends have always looked upon Tena as a woman of outstanding purity of character and dependability and one whose Christianity was lived every day. Her watchful care and love for her brothers and their love for their sister has often been spoken of. She was always ready to do all that she could for the betterment of her church and her community. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and of the Farmer’s Club.

Burial was made at McKeever cemetery.
