Death of Fred Mindham
The announcement of the passing away of Fred Mindham was received with sincere sorrow by many in this community besides his relatives and neighbors, for he was held in the very highest esteem by his associates of the Knights of Pythias, Order of Red Men and United Mine Workers, and D. O. K. K. lodges of which orders he was a member.
Fred’s chief characteristics were his quiet unassuming disposition and genuine honesty and dependability under all circumstances, but his most beautiful trait was his devotion and tender care of his parents, having remained in the home all his life to be a help and comforter to father and mother.
Fred Mindham was born in Norfolk, England, June 1st, 1872 and passed away at the Colfax Sanitarium on Thursday afternoon, October 6th, 1927 at the age of 54 years, 4 months and 5 days. Fred’s father, Martin Mindham died on May 8th 1927 leaving Fred alone at home to care for his aged mother.
Fred came to America with his parents when 12 years of age and located with them at Colfax in 1891 where he spent the remainder of his life. He was christened in the Church of England when a baby.
He is survived by his brothers, Thomas and Charles of Colfax and two sisters Mrs. Martha Richards and Mrs. Samuel Sage of Colfax; one sister Rose having died in 1893.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church with Rev. Hiller officiating. Interment was had in the McKeever cemetery.
