Life Story of W. E. Buckingham
William Edward Buckingham of Reasnor, died on June 4 near Monroe of injuries he received in an automobile accident. He was 22 years, seven months and 16 days of age at the time of his death.
William was born October 18, 1945, the son of William Irvin and Katherine (Holmes) Buckingham. Mrs. Katherine Glover, his mother survives him and resides at LaPorte City.
He spent most of his lifetime in the Prairie City and Monroe communities. He graduated from the Pleasantville High School in 1964 and he served two years in the United States Army.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his father and step-mother, William I. and Nina Buckingham of Reasnor; three brothers, George Buckingham, who is now serving in the Armed Forces in Vietnam; Terry and Billy Buckingham, both at home; three sisters, June, Teresa and Clara Buckingham, at home; and his paternal grandfather, Irvin Buckingham of Prairie City and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Nellie Jerrell of Monroe. Also surviving are his two step-brothers, Arnold and Robert O’Dell, and one step-sister Eva O’Dell, and one half-brother, Virgil Glover, Jr. of LaPorte City, besides a host of relatives and friends.
William was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Irvin Buckingham and his maternal grandfather, Floyd Holmes.
Funeral services for Mr. Buckingham were held Friday, June 7, from the Prairie City Church of the Brethren, near Prairie City. The Rev. B. D. Hinegardner officiated.
An organ selection of “The Lord Is My Shepherd” was played by Marlene Brubaker. Flower attendants were Mrs. Howard Van Baale, Mrs. John Elrod and Mrs. Robert Butin. Casket bearers were Sam DeHaai, Dean DeHaai, Albert Parker, Billy Elrod, Martin Elrod and Jerry Allen.
Interment was in the Griffis Cemetery near Prairie City.
