Lynnville – Teunis Van Maanen, 83, of rural Lynnville died Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Grinnell General Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Reformed Church in Sully.
The Rev. B. Daniel Hakken, a pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Ralph Menning, a pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Sully Cemetery.
Friends may call all day today at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials to Words of Hope or the American Heart Association will be accepted.
Survivors are eight sons, Walton, LeRoy, Gilbert and Dale, all of Lynnville, Marvin and Rodney, both of Grinnell, Norman of Newton and Dennis of Kellogg; three daughters, Arlene (Mrs. Arnout) Dunnick of Barnes City, Shirley (Mrs. Melvin) Uitermarkt of Leighton and Karen (Mrs. Frank) Van Soelen of Sully; 35 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Artie (Mrs. Cornie) Van Wyk of Sully and Minnie (Mrs. Dick) Terpstra of Pella; and a brother, John of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rika, in 1980, an infant son, Irwin Gene, in 1951, his parents and a granddaughter in 1960.
Mr. Van Maanen, who had farmed for 58 years, was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sully.
The son of Walter and Gysbertje Van Deenen Van Maanen, he was born Feb. 29, 1908 in The Netherlands. The family came to the United States in 1910, settling in the Lynnville-Sully area. He attended Taylor Rural School and Sully Christian Grade School.
He was married to Rika Fortuin Feb. 22, 1934 at Sully and the couple farmed south of Sully for six years. They moved to farm woutheast of Lynnville in1940.
