Joey Eugene Koon, 49, 724 E. 4th St. S., a resident of Newton for more than 25 years, died Tuesday evening, Dec. 31, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines after suffering a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Eugene Bucklin, pastor of the Baxter Evangelical Free Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery in Baxter.
Friends may call at the funeral home after noon today. Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Linda; five daughters, Cindy (Mrs. Jeff) Hautekeete of Apex, N.C., Connie (Mrs. Mark) Molstad of Annandale, Minn., Debora (Mrs. Jim) Lammey of Newton, Jo Koon of Oskaloosa and Janel Koon at home; and five grandchildren.
Also surviving are his mother, Roma DesPlanque of Newton and three brothers, Ray “Butch” of Newton and Terry and Dennis, both of Baxter.
He was preceded in death by his father, Quinten, in 1977.
Mr. Koon was an inspector in the die cast department of the Maytag Co. for 25 years and also was an employe of the Emmert Sinclair Service Station for 12 years.
He attended the Newton First Baptist Church and was a member of the United Auto Workers, Local 997, and Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in Vietnam.
The son of Quinten J. and Roma Lucille Gauch Koon, he was born Oct. 14, 1942 in Marshalltown.
He attended Baxter schools and was a 1961 graduate of Baxter Community High School.
He was married to Linda Kay Moredock Aug. 12, 1968 in Omaha, Neb.
