George William Peters, 60, of 2708 1st Ave. W., a lifelong resident of Newton, died this morning, Oct. 30, at the Skiff Medical Center following a heart attack due to emphysema.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. A. B. Sudbrock, pastor of the Newton Baptist Temple, will conduct services. Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Friday. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials to a fund in his name may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Mildred; four sons, George LeRoy Peters of Newton, Mike Peters of Oskaloosa, Billy Boaz of Houston, Texas; and Donnie Boaz of Bedford, Texas; two daughters, Sarah Garcia of Grand Junction, Colo., and Mary Ann (Mrs. Mike) Cole of Davenport; 11 grandchildren; a brother, John of Newton; and three sisters, Violet Smithart and Rozella (Mrs. Art) Kimberlin, both of Newton and Elizabeth Argo of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Peters, a member of the Newton Baptist Temple, was a welder at the Parsons Co. and had worked for Economy Farms in Des Moines.
The son of William Henry and Bernice Krieger Peters he was born March 12, 1931 in Newton and attended Jasper County rural schools.
