Sclena O. Duffy Horstman, 84, of the Newton Health Care Center, a resident of Newton since 1928, died of heart failure Sunday morning, Jan. 5, at Skiff Medical Center.
Graveside rites will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Newton memorial Park Cemetery.
The Rev. Bill Adams, associate pastor of the Community Heights Alliance Church, and Elder Glen Oswalt of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will conduct services.
Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after 8 a.m. Tuesday and visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials in her name may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are a son, Marion “Tex” of Newton; a daughter, L. Gernetha (Mrs. Francis) Clement of Newton; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Merle Thompson of Newton.
Mrs. Horstman was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred, in 1985, two sons, Conrad in 1983 and Neal in 1988, two brothers and five sisters.
Mrs. Horstman was a member of the Newton Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
A homemaker, she was employed at the Maytag Co. during World War II.
The daughter of Conrad J. and Mary Franklin Duffy, she was born Oct. 15, 1907 in Albia.
She attended Monroe County schools.
She was married to Fred Horstman Oct. 7, 1922 in Chariton.
