Willis G. “Bill” Lemonds, 79, of 1101 N. 9th Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1941, died Friday evening, Dec. 12, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of heart failure.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the First Christian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials to the First Christian Church may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Evelyn; two sons, Don of Davenport and Bob of Des Moines, a daughter, Arlene Lemonds of Newton; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother, L. W. Lemonds of Kellogg; and two sisters, Leona Kasper of Albia and Goldie Larson of Moline, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.
Mr. Lemonds, a member of the United Auto Workers, Local 997, Retirees Union, had been a machinist at the Maytag Co. for 31 years, retiring in February, 1973.
The son of Henry and Mary Cooper Lemonds, he was born Feb. 16, 1912 in Monroe County.
He was married to Evelyn Thompson July 13, 1940 in Unionville, Mo.
