Norman Reed Fish Jr., 68, of 603 N. 2nd Ave. W., a resident of Newton since 1957, died Monday, Nov. 11, at Heritage Manor Care Center of cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Todd Schlitter, associate pastor of the Newton First United Methodist church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call after noon Wednesday at the funeral home and family visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials to the Jasper County Youth Services may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are a son, Robert Alan of Iowa City; three daughters, Barbara Kay Rolph of Wichita, Kan., and Judith Ann Dodd and Susan Gail Butler, both of Newton; six grandchildren; three half-sisters, Pat Papendick, Toots Rodgers and Barbara Fish, all of Los Angeles, Calif.; and his step-mother, Helen Fish of Los Angeles, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Bonnie, and a son, William Lawrence.
Mr. Fish, who was employed at the Maytag Co. as a senior industrial engineer, worked for 28.3 years prior to retiring in August, 1985.
Mr. Fish, a Navy veteran, served on the USS Medusa.
He was a member of the First United Methodist church, past president and current vide-president of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association of Iowa and a member of the American legion Newton Post 111, 40 and 8, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655, Phi Delta Phi International Law Fraternity and was a life member of the Maytag Management Club.
The son of Norman and Eunice Vann Fish, he was born July 28, 1923 in New York City. He was graduated from New York City High School and the University of Kansas City and attended the Kansas City School of Law. He held bachelor’s degrees in history and government.
He was married to Bonnie Bee Burgett June 3, 1946 in Virginia City, Nev.
Mr. Fish, after living in New York City, moved to North Carolina to live with his maternal grandparents.
