Gordon Curtis Jackson, 91, of rural Monroe, died on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday, at the funeral home. Memorials to the American Legion Post 111 or the Jasper County Gun Club may be left at the funeral home.

Gordon, the son of Reuel and Dena (Kreager) Jackson, was born on June 13, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska. As a young child his family returned to Jasper County, Iowa where Gordon would live the rest of his life. Gordon attended Newton Schools and then served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. On April 24, 1960, Gordon was united in marriage with JoAnn Chapman in Newton.

Gordon was a lifelong farmer; not only was it his occupation but also his hobby and passion. Gordon’s other love was trap shooting. He was a member of the Jasper County Gun Club and was the 9-time JC Trap Shooting Competition Champion, including in 1950 the competitions inaugural year. He also won the competition in 1954, 1957, 1960, 1961, 1979, 2014, 2015, and 2017. Gordon was also a proud member of the American Legion Post 111, American Legion Post 363, and had gone on a Jasper County Freedom Flight. In past years, Gordon really enjoyed hunting and cutting wood. More recently he continued his love for growing and farming by planting tomatoes and cucumbers to share with family and friends.

Gordon is survived by his wife, JoAnn Jackson of rural Monroe; son, Jeff (Donna) Jackson of rural Newton; grandchildren, Curtis (Samantha) Jackson of rural Newton and Miranda (Jordan) Vos of Sully; great-granddaughters, Gwen and Nora; sister, Ruth (Tom) Sharp of Newton; and his dog, Max. He was preceded in death by his parents.
