Funeral services for Clarence Long were held at Ashton Chapel, Saturday afternoon. Rev. Byron Northup of Baxter preached the sermon from Hebrew 6-19. A quartette, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Morrison, Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Hawkins, with Mrs. Glen Morrison at the piano, sang “The Old Rugged Cross,” “The Family Circle,” “No Disappointment in Heaven.” Miss Gwendolyn Shuey and Mrs. Ora Hanson had charge of the flowers. Pall bearers were Tom Jeffers, Russell Hampton, Edward Haley Sr., Roy Harsha, Perry Sumpter and Chas. Sumpter. Burial was in the Kintz cemetery.
Clarence B. Long, son of Geo. and Phoebe Long was born in Clear Creek, Jasper county, May 11, 1877 and died at his home near Collins, May 2, 1934. He had been in poor health nearly two years but seriously ill two weeks with heart trouble. August 22, 1900, he was united in marriage to May Hardenberg and with the exception of a few years in Oklahoma, they have resided in this part of the county since, on a farm.
One son, Bernard, died in childhood. The wife and five children, Mrs. Ruth Neely of New Hampton, Eldon, Roland and Lorraine live near Collins, the latter at home and Raymond at Colo and several grandchildren survive. Two sisters, Mrs. Guy Hardenberg of Baxter, Mrs. Lillian Tramel of Des Moines, and one brother, James, of Baxter, survive.
Mr. Long united with the Methodist church at the Kintz school house at the age of 19 years.
Those from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Neely of New Hampton, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Long, Mrs. Lillian Tramel and Gertrude, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Oglevie and daughter of Des Moines, Mr. and Mr. Jonas Long of Newton, Mr. and Mrs. Chancey Kintz of Colfax, Elz Gibson and Alta Young of Maxell and many from Baxter, Collins and Rhodes.
