Roy J. Gomez Dies At 15
Newton Youth Succumbs Of Influenza, Complications; Rites Saturday
Roy James Gomez, 15-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Milo Gomez and an 8B student in Newton Junior high school, died at his home, 829 East Tenth street North, Thursday at 10:35 p.m. after a nine-day illness. His death was attributed to pneumonia which developed following an attack of influenza. Due to illness he returned from school early Tuesday, Feb. 13, and since had been confined to his home, his condition having been considered critical since late Monday.
Services
Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday at the Morgan Funeral home with Dr. Loren M. Edwards, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiating. Interment will be in the Newton Union cemetery.
Roy James, or “Teet” as he was called by his family, had just recently observed his fifteenth birthday having been born in Newton on Feb. 5, 1930. Prior to entering the Junior high school, he attended Emerson Hough grade school.
Survivors
In addition to his parents, he is survived by seven brothers, Juan of Dilley, Texas, Pvt. Lee, wearer of the Purple Heart of the Army Medical Corps, who after two and a half years of overseas service is now stationed at Clinton, Ia., from where he came to Newton last evening; Raymond of Newton; Francis, seaman first class, who is on a carrier in the Philippines Island area; Joe Charles, apprentice seaman, now in training at the Great Lakes Naval Training station; Robert, a Newton high school student; Richard, at home; sisters, Mrs. Lupe Garcia of Millet, Texas, Lucille, 12, and Margaret, 10, both students at Emerson Hough.
Also surviving are the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Roy Schermerhorn of this city and several aunts, uncles and cousins of Newton.
Mr. Gomez, the father of Roy James, is employed at the Newton Foundry.
