U. S. Osborn of Mingo Area Dies Here on Monday
Mingo – Ulysses S. Osborn, 83, prominent Mingo area landowner, died at 5:10 o’clock Monday in Newton. Funeral services will be held at the Mingo Methodist church, but the time has not been set pending arrival of a son from Nevada.
The son of George and Harriett Osborn, Mr. Osborn was born Sept. 21, 1866, at Mingo. He lived practically all his life in Jasper county.
He married Emma Vergin in 1908, and his wife preceded him in death in 1917.
Mr. Osborn was brought to the Toland Funeral Home in Newton to lie in state until the time of the services.
He is survived by three sons, Elwin of Lovelock, Nev., Ervin of Chicago, Ill., and Orville of Mingo; one granddaughter, Linda of Mingo, and one sister, Mrs. Albert Stier of north of Newton. Three brothers preceded him in death.

Osborn Services To Be on Friday
Funeral services for U. S. Osborn, 83, prominent Mingo area landowner who passed away Monday, will be held Friday afternoon at two o’clock at the Mingo Methodist church.
Rev. Ted Mallinckrodt, pastor of the Mingo Methodist church, will officiate at the services and burial will be in the Greencastle cemetery near Mingo. The body will lie in state at the Toland Funeral Home in Newton until Friday noon.
Mrs. Alta Neal, Mrs. John Cleverley, Eldon Geisler and Otha Hulse will sing at the services. They will be accompanied by Mrs. Audrey Harter. Mrs. Loren Stier will have charge of the flowers.
