H. A. Pentico, Life Time Resident of community Died
Funeral Services Held Friday Afternoon From Christian Church
H. A. Pentico, life-long resident of Jasper county, died at his home in Colfax, Wednesday, July 26th, following an illness of several months.
Homer Austin Pentico, son of Peter and Caroline Pentico, was born April 19, 1875, on the Pentico farmstead near Colfax in Mound Prairie township, Jasper County, Iowa, and passed away at his home in Colfax July 26, 1939, at the age of 64 years, 3 months and 8 days.
Mr. Pentico was united in marriage with Sadie Yost December 24, 1901, at Davenport, Iowa. There were six children born to this union, five boys and one girl. Two of the children passed away in infancy. Besides the life companion those of his immediate family surviving are Earl, of Dallas Center, Iowa, Orville, of Angola, Indiana, Guy of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Maurice, the youngest son, who was last heard from when he had finished an enlistment in the regular army of the United States and had received his discharge at Honolulu in the Hawaiian Islands. There is one sister, Ida Wiggins, residing in Des Moines, and also twelve grandchildren.
Mr. Pentico followed farming and coal mining throughout the years until his health failed some four or five years ago. During the last two years he has been compelled to remain at home most of the time, and the last months was practically helpless and cared for by his faithful wife.
In his younger days he was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge and also the United Mine Workers of America. The memberships he held in these organizations indicated his interest in his fellow men. Aside from those of his immediate family there are many friends and neighbors who will mourn his demise.
Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the Christian Church with the pastor, A. A. Burr, in charge. Burial was made at Rorabaugh cemetery.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Geo. Rinker and Mrs. Geo. Robinson, with Mrs. E. C. Calhoon at the piano.
Pall bearers were John Luther, Stuart McCullough, Fred Rorabaugh, Drew Coffman, Robert Wilson and C. H. Rawlins.
