Elizabeth Weston entered this world the 5th day of November 1834 in Sumner county, Ohio and passed peacefully out of it at her home in Colfax, Iowa, the 1st day of May 1924. She was permitted by her Heavenly Father to attain unto the unusual age of 89 years, 5 months and 26 days. Forty-five years ago she and her husband united to the Church of Christ by baptism and were faithful, loyal members to the end of their days.
On February 18, 1858, three years after coming to Iowa, Miss Weston was joined in wedlock with Austin Whitehead. They made their home near Ira, Iowa, and have resided in that community, until they moved to Colfax. This home was blessed with five children, four of whom were present at the funeral, Mrs. Charles Watt and Mrs. W. C. Stouffer of Colfax, Iowa; George Whitehead of Ira, and Dr. E. Whitehead of Holdrege, Nebr. Mrs. Clara Watt preceded her mother in death, having passed away in June 1920. Besides those named there are left to cherish the memory of Mrs. Whitehead, are a brother, S. C. Weston on Sebastopol, Calif., 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
It is always hard to part with loved ones but by reason of the great length of years well lived and the assurance of our faith in Jesus Christ, this is faced in triumph. “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
Funeral services were held at the home at 2:00 o’clock Sunday at Union Chapel conducted by Rev. V. H. Rogers and assisted by Rev. Austin Underwood at the Union Chapel service. Interment was made at Union Chapel.
