Southern, Edgar Elwood – 1876-1929

After an illness of sometime E. E. Southern prominent farmer of the Mingo community passed away April 27th.
Edgar Elwood Southern, son of W. J. and Mary Southern was born, Sept. 3rd, 1876 on the old Southern homestead near Mingo, Iowa. After many months of patient suffering he died at his home April 27th, 1929 at the age of 52 years, 7 months and 24 days. He was united in marriage on December 23rd, 1902 to Miss Coral Baker, only daughter of the late B. F. Baker.
He was a kind husband and father and leaves to mourn his death, his faithful and affectionate wife, two daughters and one son, Lois, now Mrs. Jadie Kimberley of Collins, Iowa; Thelma and Orlo at home. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. C. C. Turner of Mingo and Mrs. John Barclay of Carmichael, Pa., and one brother, A. A. Southern of Mingo, besides a host of other relatives and friends who are saddened by his passing.
He grew to manhood and spent practically all of his life in this vicinity. He was an honorable, upright man, ready to help with things that were an uplift to the community and his home is known as a hospitable one.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Union Chapel. Rev. Orcutt of Ankeny preached the funeral sermon. The Mingo quartet furnished the music with Mrs. Black at the piano.
Pall bearers were W. J. Byal, E. C. Battles, George Whitehead, Frank Rippey, Roy Weston and Charley Kimberley. The body was laid to rest at the Union cemetery in the family lot.
