Mrs. Lydia Ann Cross Miller passed away suddenly of a heart attack at the Skiff Memorial hospital at Newton on Monday afternoon, June 9, 1941, at 12:45 o’clock, at the age of 60 years, 4 months, 14 days. She was born near Baxter on Jan. 26, 1881, growing up in this vicinity.
In January, 1907, she was married to John Crawford and together they set to farming in the vicinity of Ira, continuing this occupation until the death of her husband. Two children were born to this union, an infant son, Feb. 5, 1909, who died at birth and John Henry Crawford, July 9, 1910. Following the death of her husband, she moved to Ira with her son. Here she lived and was united in marriage with Pearl Miller, Nov. 11, 1919.
Ira has been her home until her death, except for a short time when she lived with her husband and family in Fairbank, Iowa. Three children were born in this home Samuel, June and an infant son, who died at birth.
She is survived by her husband, Pearl; two sons, Henry and Sam and one daughter, June; one grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Allie Logsdon of Ira and Mrs. Maude Otis of Mingo; also one brother, Lenard Cross of Berwick. She was a member of the Methodist church of Ira and was active in the Ladies’ Aid work.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Methodist church. Pallbearers were C. C. Planalp, Fred Esch, Frank Tramel, Frank Baker, Will Baker and Frank Rippey. Mrs. John Boyd, Mrs. Loren Murphy and Mrs. Grace Loynachan arranged the beautiful floral tributes. Louise Eubank and Lela Gray sang “Nearer My God to Thee,” “The Old Rugged Cross and “Sometime We’ll Understand,” accompanied by Mrs. Z. C. Jones at the Piano. Rev. Carl Gray delivered the sermon and Mrs. Miller was laid to rest at the Union Chapel cemetery.
