Earle Pink, son of Peter and Emma Pink, was born on the Pink homestead, just north of his present home, on August 13, 1891, and passed away at his home May 9, 1955, due to a heart attack.
Mr. Pink lived all of his life in and near Colfax, and with the exception of a very few years, lived on his present farm. In 1913 he was united in marriage to Nellie Beals. To this union one son, Elmer Pink, of Colfax, Ia., was born.
Earl was a member of the Sand Hill Grange for forty-eight years, and has always been active in Farm Bureau work. He started with the Farm Program in the early thirties and became chairman of the Triple A Office in Newton, where he served for six years. Earl found it necessary to retire from the Triple A Office two years ago, due to ill health.
Early Monday, May 9, 1955, Earl planned to go to the home of a neighbor, and as he got into his car his life was taken by a heart attack. He will be greatly missed in the community as he had a host of friends, among both young and old.
He attended the Sand Hill church and was active in the Goddard Sunday School. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and his son Elmer and daughter-in-law, Helen, two sisters, Mrs. Grace Gribben of Newton, and Cecil Beals of Colfax. Also his mother, Mrs. Emma Pink of Newton with whom he had spent Mother’s Day. There are several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
A fine tribute was paid to Earl by a friend who said “in all my dealings with people, and I have had many, there was never one more sincere and truthful than Earle”.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 in the Methodist Church in Colfax with Rev. W. L. Hawn, pastor of the church officiating.
Burial was in the Union Chapel Cemetery at Ira.
