JONES, SOUTHERN, STRICKLER, WESTON

C. E. Jones, son of J. G. and Arabel Jones, was born near Akron, Ohio, on February 25, 1852. At the age of 12 years with his parents he came to Jasper county and spent the remainder of his life in this community. On January 1, 1896 he was united in marriage to Ella B. Strickler and to this union God gave nine children, seven sons and two daughters. The two dying in infancy.
The first few years of this new home were spent northwest of Ira and the rest in the close vicinity of Ira, moving from the home farm to their home in Ira seventeen years ago. It was on last New Years’ Day they celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary with all their children gathered about them.
Mr. Jones has been in poor health for a number of years and often spoke of his going and on Monday morning while at his work about the home the end came and he left his earthly companions and pilgrimage at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 12 days.
When a young man 25 years of age he joined the Christian church at Clyde and was baptized by Brother Vanters and all these years he has been true to his faith. He loved the church and God permitted him to serve it in many ways.
He leaves to mourn his going, his companion, two daughters, Mrs. A. A. Southern of Mingo and Mrs. Roy Weston of Ira; five sons, Grover of Shell Lake, Wis.; Charley of Centuria, Wis.; Frank and John of Collins and Zenas of Ira, twenty-two grandchildren and a sister, Mary of Oregon and a host of relatives and friends made along his journey of life.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. on last Wednesday at the Christian church at Ira. Rev. C. A. Underwood of Clearfield, a former pastor at Ira, was in charge. Music was furnished by a mixed quartette from Baxter: Marguerite Krampe, Jennie Goodwin and Guy and Harold Hardenburg. Mrs. Floyd Mason accompanied
Pallbearers were Frank Rippey, Frank Tramel, Fred Cash, Scott Schroyer, Will Baker and Sidney Weston.
A large crown gathered to pay their last tribute to their most respected citizen and the many beautiful flowers spoke of his high esteem in the Union Chapel.
