Rural Mingo Man Dies Saturday
An 84-year-old Jasper county man, Ira W. Bittner of route one, Mingo was killed by a gunshot wound in the head about 8 a.m. Saturday.
Bittner was found at their farm home, five miles north of Mingo, by his wife, who reported to Jasper county deputy sheriff Charles Hutchins, who investigated, that her husband had been despondent over ill health for some time.
Boyd-Nickell funeral home at Baxter will be in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bittner is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Walter (Grace) Link of Maxwell; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew.
The son of Chauncey and Rachael Bittner, he was born April 8, 1876.
He was married to Katherine Chenebarger December 25, 1904.
Mr. Bittner farmed in the Mingo vicinity most of his life.

Ira W. Bittner Rites Are Conducted Monday
Mingo – Funeral services for Ira W. Bittner, 84, a lifelong resident of the Mingo community, were held Monday afternoon at the Ashton Chapel church near Ira.
The Rev. Thomas Woodin, pastor of the Collins Methodist church, conducted the services. Burial was in Ashton Chapel cemetery.
Mrs. John Cleverley, the soloist, was accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Donnell Deutsch.
Pallbearers were Otis Dodd, John Cleverley, Leon Maxwell, Paul Borts, Homer Hall and Ernest Maxwell.
Boyd-Nickell funeral home at Baxter was in charge of arrangements.
