Funeral Services For Former Resident Sat.
Ben Sumpter Died at His Home In Omaha, Thursday, July 17
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Ben Sumpter, at the Cutter-Hartnett Funeral chapel. Mr. Sumpter is a former resident of this city, having grown to manhood here, and is well known to many Colfax people. He was a son of Mrs. Eliza Waggoner of Colfax.
Benjamine Charles Sumpter, son of John and Eliza Sumpter, was born in Colfax, Jasper County, Iowa, and grew to manhood in this community. About fifteen years ago he moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where he resided until his death, July 17, 1930. On October 18, 1919 he was united in marriage to Miss Julia Welsh of Papillion, Nebraska. At the time of his death he was 52 years, 1 months and 25 days old. Death was the result of a three day illness of apoplexy and pneumonia.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 19, from the Cutter-Hartnett funeral chapel with Wm. Paul Hammar of the Colfax Baptist church officiating. Mrs. Hammar sang “Oh Love That Will Not Let Me Go” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.” Interment was in Slaughter cemetery.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, his aged mother, Mrs. Eliza Waggoner of Colfax, a son, Hoyt J. Sumpter of Seattle, Washington, one sister, Mrs. Tinna Koontz of Bedford, Indiana, two brothers, W. H. Sumpter of Chariton, Iowa, and O. H. Sumpter of Mitchellville, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers wee Levi Faidley, John Mead, Lee Winbigler, Sam Lester, Harry Woods and John Main.
