Grandma Pentico Is Called
Mrs. Caroline Pentico, better known here as Grandma Pentico, passed away at the home of her son Homer, in Montezuma, Thursday after a few weeks’ illness.
Caroline Kline was born near Pa_burg, Pennsylvania, September 1st, 1842, and departed this life, Sept. 23rd, 1926, at the age of 84 years and 22 days. On the 9th of April 1870 she was united in marriage to Peter Pentico at Tipton, Iowa. They came in a short time to Jasper county where they have resided since, making them one of the pioneer families of this vicinity.
To this union five children were born, four sons and one daughter.
The husband preceded her in death in 1908 and the three sons, Bert, Roy and Jesse, after they had reached manhood.
She leaves to mourn her loss one son Homer Pentico of Montezuma, Iowa and one daughter. Mrs. Hiram Wiggins of Des Moines and eight grandchildren, also eight great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Pentico became a member of the Christian church at Dubuque, Iowa, at the age of nine years and remained a faithful member of that faith until the time of her death.
Grandma Pentico suffered a slight stroke last January and it became necessary to give up her home in Colfax and spend the time with her children. She was in the home of her son at Montezuma when she slipped and fractured her hip eight weeks ago. The shock was too great for her to stand at her advanced age.
Her son and daughter tenderly card for her and the kind neighbors came in and greatly assisted them.
So a much beloved mother has gone to her reward.
Funeral services were held from the local Christian church Sunday afternoon with Rev. Foglesong in charge.
