Kenneth E. Townsend, 73, of Newton, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday February 04, 2005 at First Baptist Church in Newton. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

The son of Harry F. and Veva Etta (Patterson) Townsend, he was born Feb. 19, 1931, in rural Baxter. Kenny served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a Newton Police Officer from 1955 to 1960. Kenny later worked in the factory at Maytag retiring in 1992. Kenny enjoyed bowling and belonged to the Jasper County Bowlers Association. He was a life-long resident of Jasper County and lived in Baxter, Kellogg and Newton.

Those left to honor Kenneth's memory are his wife, Nancy R. Townsend; daughter, Dianna Townsend of Grinnell, IA; 2 step sons and a daughter-in-law, Wayne W. and Robyn Biehl of Ankeny, IA, Randy Biehl of Elwood, Illinois; 2 step daughters and a son-in-law, Debra and Mike Schuring of Pella, IA and Nancy Ann Shultz of Cedar Falls, IA and her fiancé Tim of Cedar Falls; 7 grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Coleen and Marion Brown of Paola, Kansas, Ruth and Harold Fallen of Durand, Michigan; his brother and sister-in-law, Myron (Butch) and Nancy C. Townsend of Newton

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Todd and Phyllis Townsend; a stepdaughter, Carol Rae Biehl; two grandchildren and four brothers, Wayne, Donald “Bus”, Max and Carroll Townsend.
